Did you ever meet someone who prefers to be at work rather than at home? Well, if you haven’t, let me introduce myself, because I am that person. You see, my job as a cleaning person allows me the opportunity to escape the heat and humidity that I must put up with at home. I work at a resort and spend my days in the comfort of the units where I can crank the air conditioning and not have to pay for its cooling effects. The job really isn’t that hard and most of the guests leave me really nice tips. I still don’t make enough to afford having air conditioning at my apartment so that is why I love being at work. Even on days where I have a really dirty unit I never mind. Those units take extra time to clean but the way I see it, the longer I am there in the air conditioned space, the better. One day, maybe I will be in a better position financially to afford my own HVAC system and I will feel like they do too. For now, my apartment is small and I use box fans to try and keep cool while I am home. I live in a region that has year round summer temperatures so this means that I always have a hard time sleeping and I actually feel more rested after work than I do when I am at home.
